gentle yoga for the overwhelmed
Yoga for Healing
By Amanda Cutler, LCSW, CYP-500
In the mental health field over the past decade, there has been an explosion of research on the way that trauma, stress, and emotions are stored in the physical body - not just our thoughts and memories. As a mental health therapist, I knew I wanted more tools to address this reality. I wanted to help my clients form meaningful mind-body connections in their therapy with me to allow for deeper healing.
I earned my 500-hour yoga teaching training in 2020 with an emphasis on the clinical applications of yoga. Yoga is an excellent somatic intervention and something I incorporate into therapy with my clients for many reasons. My Tuesday yoga class is taught in a trauma-sensitive style, meaning it focuses on choice, tuning into your body, and practicing tools to help you self-regulate emotions and physical responses, on and off the mat.
This style of yoga is non-competitive and meant for everyone, from those who have never touched a yoga mat to experienced yoga practitioners. And this class is excellent for anyone who is feeling overwhelmed; you don’t need to be a Continuum client! This is a great class for clinicians, working adults, parents, and everyone who needs a chance to slow down and breathe (hint: all of us!).
If you would like to learn more about trauma-sensitive yoga specifically, please message me or go here to learn more.
I hope that you will join me for a class to experience this healing modality!
Be well! -Amanda
